Which Braces Color Should You Choose?
When you are considering orthodontic treatment, it’s easy to get lost in the hundreds of choices. There are so many braces colors and materials on the market that it can be difficult to choose which one to get, especially if you don’t have any previous experience with braces before. In this guide, we’ll show you how to choose the best braces color based on what you want from your treatment and your personal style!
Whiter teeth are always better
Your dentist may have suggested braces as a way to improve your smile and oral health, but you’re probably wondering: Do I really need them? Yes. Despite what you might think, whiter teeth aren’t just for vanity’s sake. There are many practical reasons to get braces — some of which you may not even realize. In fact, your teeth could be hiding serious problems, like untreated cavities or an underbite that makes chewing difficult. When it comes down to it, most people wear braces because they want brighter smiles and straighter teeth that last into old age.
What if you don’t want your teeth to be super white?
There are three main types of braces: clear aligners, metal brackets, and ceramic brackets. While it is true that ceramic and metal can be painted with tooth-whitening gel to give you a brighter smile, you might not want your teeth to look that white. There’s no right or wrong color; it’s really all about personal preference. If you don’t want your teeth to be super white (and we don’t blame you), clear aligners are an excellent choice. In fact, they’re becoming more popular as more patients opt for conservative dental procedures over more invasive options. With clear aligners, only your teeth move—no paint is needed!
How do you find the best shades for yourself?
Think of your braces color wheel—one that you’re in control of. You might pick shades from opposite sides to make a subtle statement. Or, if you’re feeling bold, try mixing three primary colors together for a bright pop. The best way to find your perfect shade is by doing some research and then experimenting with different options; even if you don’t end up finding the one, there are lots of other shades out there waiting for you. Most people will stick to warm or cool tones because they coordinate well with an array of outfits, but there really is no right or wrong choice when it comes to choosing between them. If you want to get technical about it, here’s how you can do that: Warm Colors: If you like wearing reds, yellows, oranges, and warm-colored browns and greens on a regular basis (e.g., forest green), opt for braces made out of these hues. These varieties complement naturally dark lips quite nicely. Cool Colors: If you prefer blues, purples, whites, silver-blacks or silvery grays over anything else (e.g., silver metallic leather jackets), consider investing in braces made from similar hues that are toned down enough not to be overly flashy but still eye-catching enough as accessories to wear around town every day when not at school or work.
A quick guide on what colors would work best with your skin tone
The braces color wheel can help you pick out which brace shade is best for your skin tone. The rule of thumb is to match your skin tone with a similar colored metal. (The yellow, white, and rose gold metals in particular work well with darker complexions.) If you have more than one color on your teeth, choose a lighter shade for braces that sits near your gums or has clear bands at either end (this will draw attention away from contrast-heavy parts of your smile). Also, if you’re starting off as a teenager—which most people do these days—you’ll probably change braces color somewhere down the line anyway.
